Chiropractic can be seen as both a complementary and alternative field of medicine. For some patients their musculoskeletal complaints do not respond to pharmaceuticals or the medications make daily tasks impossible. For these patients chiropractic can provide an alternative treatment.
Chiropractic can also complement other health care areas such as physical therapy, occupational therapy and pain management.
When a patient is seen in our office, with their permission, we will send a report of findings to their primary care physician as well as progress notes every 3-4 weeks to keep you informed on their care. It is important to Dr. Morsch that all participating providers be up to date on the patient’s care. If a patient presents with a complaint or concern that is out of our scope of practice we will refer them to an appropriate health care provider that will be able to address the issue.
Chiropractic is safe, effective and conservative for treating spinal related disorders, however we are not limited to the spine. In New York state, it is within our scope of practice to treat any joint in addition to the spine. Chiropractors are effective in treating any headache on the headache continuum, TMJ pain, knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, wrist pain, including carpal tunnel, and so on.
We are well trained in anatomy and body biomechanics and are considered first contact doctors. We can diagnose and treat patients often without the need for a referral. I encourage you to read through the chiropractic education page for an outline of the course work that is standard for chiropractors.
Chiropractic care can also be beneficial for women during pregnancy and children. In kids, chiropractic can help with colic, asthma, torticollis, growing pains, recurrent ear infections, ADD/ADHD/Autims/SPD, headaches and much more. For more information, please read our pediatric page.
Chiropractic can be a complementary medicine for women during pregnancy. Many women experience low back pain, sciatica, neck pain and headaches as their bodies change and adapt to the pregnancy. We provide relief from pain without the use of medications. Studies have found that women who are under chiropractic care experience shorter labor times, have less dystocia and require less interventions. Dr. West is certified in the Webster Technique, a specific technique for women during pregnancy. The Webster Technique was designed to correct musculoskeletal causes of intra-uterine constraint that can cause a fetus to remain in a breech or transverse position. Studies have found that this technique has an 82% success rate that the baby will turn on its own, in preparation for birth. For more information, please read our pregnancy page.
If you have any questions or would like to know more about chiropractic for yourself or your patients, please contact Dr. West.
